| This week’s unofficial PGA Tour tournament is the PNC Championship an annual friendly battle between Major Championship winners who team up with a family member to compete for The Willie Park Trophy, which is based upon the original Open Championship belt that was presented to the Champion golfer of the year.
The format is loosely based on Greensomes where both members drive and you choose the best drive, the change is you also get to choose the best second/third and subsequent shots until the ball is holed out.
The venue is the Greg Norman designed Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, where the emphasis has been put on preserving the area’s well-balanced ecosystem, which has thriving ponds, wetlands, live oaks, and cypress heads giving the course it’s beautiful natural elements and has recently been recognized as the sixth golf course in the U.S. to become Golf Environment Organization (GEO) Certified
The wide fairways meander through the ecosystem with strategically placed hazards, large landing areas, and subtly contoured greens and with its five teeing options the course can play from 7,122 – 5,223 yards. There are 70 bunkers perfectly placed in the landing zones on these gently rolling fairways or protecting greens, water features on sixteen of the eighteen holes, but is not always in play.
